It's time again! The Salem Walk MS is April 19, 2008. This is my fifth year chairing the event. I wasn't going to do it this year~trying to cut back and have more time to be with my family. But after 3 other chairs signed up and then backed out, they asked me to help. How could I just let it go to pot. This walk has been my baby~my pride and joy. I have seen it go from just 200 people to having over 600walkers. The first year I chaired the walk it was pouring down rain and we raised around $23,000.00. Now Salem is raising over $40,000.00. I am so proud of how my little community comes together to make things happen. I have realized in almost having not had my hand in it this year that I am not ready to let it go yet. So I am glutton for punishment. :) Hopefully with co-chairs for next year we can maybe even hit the $50,000.00 mark.
I have thought really hard this week about why I feel like I want to still coordinate this event. I have come to realize that in regards to Dougs MS I feel so helpless. I give him his shots three times a week and make sure he has all of his other meds. But still, other than putting extra blankets on him at night when he has sever chills there's not a lot more I can do for him. I think that in helping the community raise funds for research, I am hoping that in Doug and my lifetime we will see a cure for MS. Doug is the love of my life~my bestest of best friends. My world is nothing without him in it. When it's nearing 4:00ish I start smiling thinking that he will be home soon. He lights up my life~so this is why I do it. I want to raise money-substantial money to help find a cure for the love of my life.
I invite all of our friends and family and anyone who reads this to join in the fight for a world free of MS. Please visit http://www.walkmsoregon.com to make a donation to Marlee's team ~ "For My Daddy" in Salem. Doug, myself, Marlee and Ian are all registered under Marlee's team. It's quick and simple and you can do it with a credit card. We appreciate all of your love and support
